Matted: Bay Street, 1907
Bay Street looking north from Temperance when 12 stories was tall. The frontage of City Hall - now old city hall - tells us where this 1907 picture was taken, but all the other buildings on this section of Bay St. have long since gone. The 12-storey building on the left, belonging to the Independent Order of Foresters, was the tallest building in the British Empire when it was built in 1895. It stood until 1971.
